Our high-quality remakes of the classics The Sea Wolf and The Bridge are told in an exciting, contemporary way with an impressive visual language. These will especially appeal to a young audience. Apart from our striking TV events and new series, we also have a broad range of TV movies and major entertainment shows in our bag of tricks.
MIPCOM 2008: The portfolio
Events: The adventure miniseries The Sea Wolf (producer: Hofmann und Voges) is a high-quality remake of the Jack London classic of the same name. The lead is played by Hollywood star Thomas Kretschmann, who has stood out previously for his work in international blockbusters like King Kong and Wanted. The sumptuously produced adventure tells the story of two men of very different qualities, Humphrey van Weyden and Wolf Larsen. The battle between good and evil is told in an exciting, contemporary style. The Final Days (producer: OLGA Film) is a two-part event about the last few months of the German Democratic Republic. The miniseries impressively shows how the state persecuted its critics, how the resistance was still able to form and how the courage and the will of freedom finally brought the regime down. The anti-war film The Bridge (producer: Lionheart Entertainment) is a modern remake of the German film classic of the fifties based on the autobiographical novel by Gregor Dorfmeister. Seven young men defend a bridge at the end of World War Two. The groups leader is 16-year-old Walter (Lars Steinhöfel), who is in a relationship with his teacher (Franka Potente, of Run, Lola, Run). The original version of Bernhard Wicki won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Oscar. Gaping Abyss (producer: Action Image) is a disaster film that uses computer animation to portray the spectacle as a city collapses into the earth. Computer animation also provides impressive images in the action event film Killer Bees (producer: Wasabi).
Telenovela: The modern-day fairy tale Anna (producer: Producers at Work) tells the story of shy Anna, who cant manage to speak a single word if a stranger is present. As Lisa Plenske did in Thats Life, (producer: Grundy UFA TV Produktions GmbH) creatively talented Anna dreams of advancement in her career and of finding Mr. Right. Over the course of many episodes, Anna learns to overcome her shyness and make her dreams come true.
Series: In Legally Dad (producer: Producers at Work), a successful attorney has to cut back on work to take care of his little daughter. A professionally superb doctor with a difficult personality is the heroine of Dr. Molly (producer: Producers at Work). To improve her bedside manner and her dealings with colleagues, shes assigned to work alongside another woman with strong psychological intuition but it only leads to more tension. Berlin Medicals (producer: teamWorx) tells stories from the lives of young assistant doctors at a Berlin hospital. As is so often the case in stressful hospital work, its hard to keep professional and private matters apart. In the award winning Belgian TV series MPU Missing Person Unit (producer: Eyeworks) a special unit is searching for people missing without a trace. In The Medical Intern (producer: FourOne.Media B.V.) a young doctor tries to straighten out the tangles between her professional and private life.
Movies: In Think Slim! (producer: Hager Moss Film), hypnotherapy makes chunky Dette see herself as a thin woman in the mirror. The hilarious story shows how much joie de vivre can come along with self-confidence. In Germany, the film has already drawn 17.4 percent of the key demographic. The twelfth installment of the successful Dream Hotels (producer: Lisa Film) carries the audience off to Malaysia. The mystery thriller Gonger (producer: filmpool Film- und Fernsehproduktion) tells the tale of an ancient curse that plagues the inhabitants of a village. To break the spell, the protagonists have to find out the truth about the mysterious death of a little boy who reportedly haunts people as Gonger.
Magazine shows/Documentaries: In Galileo (producer: ProSieben) SevenOne International has a format in its portfolio thats already been successful all over Europe. The knowledge magazine show is already running in such places as Russia, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Ukraine. It provides exciting, easy-to-understand explanations of scientific phenomena in everyday life. The Bavarian Television Prize-winning documentary Broad Peak: Icy Grave (producer: ProSieben) reports on the difficult recovery of the body of an alpinist who died 8,000 meters up a mountain. The knowledge magazine show How It Works, produced for National Geographic UK, provides fascinating glimpses into the world of technology.
Formats: Culture Shock: Norway (developed by Brain Station) takes Americans with Norwegian roots back to their ancestors homeland. The ten contestants, who have never been outside their own country, follow in the footsteps of their forebears and have to master a variety of tasks. The participants learn to enjoy life in the wild, and can earn access to pieces of their family tree, besides getting to know the country and its people. The season finale is a happy ending in which the best of the genealogical researchers gets to meet his distant relatives from Europe. This emotion-packed concept is transferable to any country that has a history of emigration. The Sexometer (producer: Four Luck Banana) brings the sexual preferences of a whole nation to the TV screen. The Spanish prime-time concept uses a survey to find out what goes on behind closed bedroom doors. Pregnant teenagers are the topic of the reality show Young Mothers (producer: Sand TV), which has been a major success in Scandinavia. A camera team tracks underage mothers along their difficult path through life for a period of several years. The Stars in Danger: Car Ball Championship (producer: Brainpool) combines Europes two favorite leisure activities: cars and soccer. The innovative concept, in which two contestants try to navigate an oversized ball into the goal with a compact car, is part of the internationally successful Stars in Danger series. In the dating show Countess Wanted (producer: MME Me, Myself & Eye Entertainment), four blue-blooded guys go looking for a bride. In every episode of The Business Coach (producer: UFA Film & TV-Produktion) a coach helps a mom-and-pop business to recover from financial troubles. Fata Morgana (producer: SULTAN SUSHI) is a light entertainment show with a community spirit. A celebrity sets a total of five almost insurmountable tasks for a whole small town. The people can achieve the (apparently) impossible only by joining forces. At the end of the week they present the results in a big event. On the Belgian reality show High Tension (producer: SULTAN SUSHI) a family tries to manage for a week on only 30 percent of the average household energy consumption. GO IV (producer: SULTAN SUSHI) is an action game show in which two teams of four kids between 9 and 14 compete in various exciting feats. Clockwise (producer: Kuperman Productions) is a fast-paced quiz show for the whole family, in which contestants have to come up with as many right answers as possible in just a few seconds.
Upcoming Events: Cloud Chasers (producer: Caligari Film- und Fernsehproduktion) are young pilots who love their job. They set off on a quest for a strange weather phenomenon that forced one of them to make an emergency landing. As the protagonists investigate the dangerous caprices of the atmosphere, they get into trouble and discover the power of nature. Crash Point: Berlin (producer: Hager Moss Film) also plays out in the skies. A passenger jet goes out of control and is heading straight for the center of Berlin. Those responsible on the ground have to make difficult decisions in a terribly short time: evacuate the capital, or shoot down the plane? Jonathan Fall also faces difficult questions in the action thriller Circle of Blood (producer: Typhoon). After an accident, he wakes up in Norway with no knowledge of who he is or why hes being persecuted. In a spectacular hunt all across Europe, he discovers clues about the conspiracy that has enmeshed him.
